Pirate Party on Catalina Isle (1935)


The 1935 short film Pirate Party on Catalina Isle, filmed in Technicolor, features cameo appearances by such Hollywood stars and future stars as Marion Davies, Erroll Flynn, Cary Grant, Randolph Scott, Mickey Rooney. Songs used in the film’s production numbers include “Anchors Aweigh,” “Avalon,” “The Gold Diggers’ Song (We’re in the Money),” “(We’re Gonna Have) Smooth Sailing,” “Twelfth Street Rag,” and “The Sailor’s Hornpipe.”

The Gold Diggers’ Song (We’re in the Money)

The song was introduced by Ginger Rogers and chorus in Gold Diggers of 1933. In 1935, it was one of several songs used in Pirate Party on Catalina Isle where it is sung by an unidentified male vocal group, with dancing by The Fanchonettes.
