(You Can) Depend On Me

(You Can) Depend On Me (Berry Gordy, Jr., Smokey Robinson)
The first of two recordings of the song was released in September 1959 on Tamla 54028 as the B-side of “The Feeling is So Fine.” That single was withdrawn and months later replaced with the issue of “Way Over There” on 22 February 1960. “Way Over There” featured a new recording of “(You Can) Depend On Me” on its flip side, but was nevertheless issued with the same catalog number as “The Feeling is So Fine,” which failed to chart.
While “Depend On Me” resembles in style and arrangement many 1950s vocal harmony group ballads, it also anticipates the Miracles’ 1965 hit “Ooo Baby Baby.”
