* (There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me” – Sandie Shaw’s recording was a big hit in several countries, but not in the US, where it failed to reach the top forty (#51). It was #1 in the UK, Canada, and South Africa, and also did quite well in Australia (#16), Ireland (#7) and the Netherlands (#10).
** The page titled Burt Bacharach’s Hit Recordings at the site Burt Bacharach: A House is Not a Homepage contains a list that includes 100 hit recordings of songs with music by Burt Bacharach, but (for unknown reasons) also includes a number of other recordings that weren’t hits. To be a hit on the Billboard charts a recording must enter the top 40 for at least one week. At the top of the list we find the following breakdown:
Top 40 Hits: 66
Top 10 Hits: 28
No. 1 Hits: 6
However, every top 10 and no. 1 hit is, ipso facto, a top 40 hit. Therefore, without having counted them, I gather that the number of top 40 hit recordings in the list is 66 + 28 + 6 = 100. Fewer than one hundred songs are represented among these one hundred hits because for some songs there were multiple recordings that became hits.
