Here’s a recording of “Dixie Dreams” (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n98log623iM) made on September from 1924 by the band of Leroy Smith with Pike Davis & Frank Bell on trumpets, Robert Lewis on trombone, Emerson Harper on alto sax, clarinet & oboe, Harold Henson on alto sax, cello & string bass, Stan Peters on tenor. sax & bassoon, Harry Brooks on piano, Sa(muel) Speed on banjo, Fred Peters on tuba & Edward Beeler on drums.
Originally issued on Everybodys 1027, Clover 1546 & Pennington 1455 (the latter under the pseudonym of Michigan Melody Makers).
Information taken from Brian Rust’s legendary book titled “Jazz & Ragtime Records, 1897-1942”.
