QHCF 1937

Tears (Jean Reinhardt, Stephane Grapelli) 21/4/37, Paris – QHCF – Stephane Grappelly (v), Django Reinhardt, Pierre Ferret, Marcel Bianchi (g), Louis Vola (b)” – djangopedia. Djangomontreal appears to indicate that the band was billed as Django Reinhardt et le Quintette du Hot Club de France avec Stéphane Grappelli for the April Paris sessions. The date is in question. 21 April is given by Djangopedia, while DjangoMontreal suggests a day earlier.

.

Ain’t Misbehavin’ (m. Fats Waller, Harry Brooks, w. Andy Razaf)  21?/4/37, Paris – QHCF – Stéphane Grappelli (violin), Django Reinhardt (guitar solo), Pierre “Baro” Ferret, Marcel Bianchi (guitar), Louis Vola (bass). Again DjangoMontreal is uncertain of the date.

.

When Day is Done (B.G. DeSylva, B.G. Ballantine, Robert Katscher) – 22/4/37, Paris – QHCF – Stéphane Grappelli (violin); Django Reinhardt (guitar solo); Pierre “Baro” Ferret; Marcel Bianchi (guitar); Louis Vola (bass)

.

Rose Room (Harry Williams, Arthur “Art” Hickman)

.

Sheik of Araby (m. Ted Snyder, w. Harry B. Smith, Francis Wheeler) Composed in 1921.

27/4/37 – Paris – QHCF – Stéphane Grappelli (violin); Django Reinhardt (guitar solo); Pierre “Baro” Ferret; Marcel Bianchi (guitar); Louis Vola (bass). The note “as above” at djangopedia is misleading. It suggests a different lineup. I believe they copy from DjangoMontreal (or perhaps both use the same source) and then fail to adapt the text to the context. In this case “as above” points to a lineup which includes a tenor sax player. There’s no sax in this recording.
